8th Grade National History Day Projects
Hope’s 8th grade class has just completed their National History research project, a month-long effort which culminates in the completion of a website or documentary video presenting and analyzing a historical topic from the theme of ‘Triumph and Tragedy.’ Ostensibly rooted in the work of scholars and historians published on their topics, the students must are required to interpret the information they gather and draw conclusions pertinent to global conditions and local populations. Their internalization of the topics, which ranged from icons of women’s suffrage to the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II, is then assessed in an interview component, wherein they become the educator, relating the narrative arc of their research into the triumphs and tragedies that mark the ages of history.
